Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 17. Celebrate the main man in your life by planning a Hollywood Beach day just for him.
Plan a BBQ
While the food is cooking (and don’t let dad touch the grill – this is his day off!), From jet ski lessons to relaxing under one of Hollywood Beach’s cabanas, Hollywood Beach is a great place to celebrate Father’s Day. Find a picnic bench at Hollywood Beach’s BBQ area, right near the watchtower and the Turtle Café.
• Veggie Burgers: Be kind to dad’s loving heart and encourage him to ditch the meat-based burgers and hot dogs in favor of vegetarian or vegan options. Frozen veggie burgers from stores like Whole Foods taste great on the grill. Meatless hot dogs like Smart Dogs also work well when paired with a whole wheat bun and all the traditional Father’s Day fixings.
• Beer and Soda: Pick up a six pack of organic beer such as something from Maine’s Peak Brewing Company . One of their flavors is Summer Session Ale, a summer wheat beer. If dad’s not a big drinker, hit up your local organic food store for a generous selection of organic sodas in recyclable bottles. Of course, water is also the perfect beverage to have on hand at your South Florida Father’s Day BBQ.
• Burn, Baby, Burn: Every time we light traditional charcoal, we release a little more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In fact, according to the US Department of Energy, the summer months are responsible for 225,000 tons of carbon dioxide. Pick up some green lump coal instead of traditional charcoal and fire up the green grill. Another option is coconut shell charcoal.
• Organic Veggies: Since Father’s Day is on a Sunday this year, you’ll be just in time to run over to Josh’s Organic Market, located on Harrison Street, and pick up some yummy organic produce for the grill. They open at 9 am and don’t close until 5ish.
Hollywood Beach Fun
Set up a jet ski lesson for dad. Less sporty dads might be content to walk along the boardwalk, taking in the sights. You can even rent the whole family one of Hollywood Beach’s trademark, dome-like blue cabanas for a reasonable price.
